Dolphins at Dawn

I was floating off the south end of Maroubra at maybe 5:50am, hands cold enough that they didn't move properly. The pod came in close — close enough that I heard them breathe before I saw them. Two adults and what I'm fairly sure was a calf, though it was barely light and I might be making that up.

I had the camera in a housing on a wrist strap but didn't shoot for the first minute. There's a pause when something you've waited years to see actually happens, and the right thing to do in that pause is nothing.

The frames I made afterwards are ok. The frame I would have made in that first minute would have been the one. Worth the trade. I think.
